Forty-five years of photos and graphics

Due to the pandemic, the restaurant where I've worked for over 22 years, has been closed since March of last year.

After weighing my options, and with careful consideration, I finally took the leap and retired on December 1, 2020.

Now that I am retired, I look forward to being productive with the newly acquired time on my hands.

One of my projects will be, to edit and organize the untold thousands of photos and graphics that I've created over the years.

Here is a small sampling from some of the many folders that I've looked through in the last two days.

The statue was sculpted by Count Vittorio di Colbertaldo of Verona, who was a fascist, and one of Benito Mussolini’s bodyguards known as the Black Musketeers.

Reconstruction of Riace Warriors B and A, 2016 and 2015

Not only were marble sculptures polychromed in antiquity, bronze ones were also.

In the two Riace Warriors the illusion of sun-tanned skin was achieved by the application of numerous layers of a greatly thinned asphalt varnish to which a little red pigment had been added. Their extremely lifelike appearance is produced by their elaborately crafted stone eyes, their copper nipples and lips, and their teeth plated with silver foil. In scientific investigations of the originals and the creation of the reconstructions it was determined that the one warrior is Erechtheus, the son of the goddess Athena, the other Eumolpos, the son of Poseidon.

From the show Gods in Color, at the Legion of Honor in 2017

One doesn't need to know the artist's private intentions. The work tells all.

The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.

Aristotle

The ideal of beauty is simplicity and tranquility.

Good photography is not about Zone Printing or any other Ansel Adams nonsense. It's just about seeing. You either see or you don't see. The rest is academic. Photography is simply a function of noticing things. Nothing more.
