Our summer fog at the Golden Gate

“There is no stupidity great enough to ruin the majesty of the Golden Gate Bridge. It has been the subject of terrible poetry and worse paintings, but it rises easily and grandly above the mundane, its towers poking through the fogs, natural and man-made.” Herb Caen

“A wall of thick, dirty fog rising genie-like from the Pacific, while a finger of whiter, puffier stuff feels its way into the bay, twisting this way and that till it conforms to every contour, snugly and coldly.” Herb Caen

Dave and I went to Point Reyes today.
The twelfth of July is my birthday so we wanted to do something special.
To get there we drove north along the coast on the beautiful Highway One.
It was overcast the whole way.
When we arrived, the Point Reyes National Seashore area was shrouded in fog.
But at the beaches, it was clear, and the air was almost warm. Go figure.
At dusk, right after we’d decided to begin the journey back to San Francisco, a large herd of Tule Elk came out of the fog and crossed the road.
That made for a very special day.
